- 1 cup hot water
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, combine 1 and 3/4 cups of flour, 2 cups of sugar, 3/4 cup of cocoa powder, 2 teaspoons of baking soda, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
- Add 2 eggs, 1 cup of buttermilk, 1/2 cup of vegetable oil, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
- Stir in 1 cup of hot water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin, but that's okay.
- Fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
