  • 2 1/4 teaspoons of instant yeast

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, 1/4 cup of sugar, salt, and instant yeast.
  • In a small saucepan, heat the milk until it reaches 110-115°F. Remove from heat and stir in the water.
  • Add the milk mixture, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, adding the remaining 1/4 cup of flour as needed, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Punch down the dough and roll it out into a 12x8 inch rectangle. Cut the dough into 12 strips.
  • Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 375°F.
  • Carefully fry the dough strips, a few at a time, for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  • In a small bowl, whip the heavy cream and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form. Transfer the mixture to a piping bag fitted with a round tip.
  • Insert the tip into the end of each donut stick and pipe the vanilla cream filling into the center.
  • Serve the vanilla cream filled donut sticks immediately and enjoy!
