Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe bananas
  • 8 ounces of dark chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt

Instructions

  • Peel the bananas and cut them in half crosswise. Insert a popsicle stick into each banana half and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Freeze for at least 2 hours.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, combine 8 ounces of dark chocolate chips and 1 tablespoon of coconut oil. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
  • Remove the frozen bananas from the freezer. Working quickly, dip each banana half into the melted chocolate, allowing any excess to drip off. Place the chocolate-covered bananas back onto the parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt over the chocolate-covered bananas before the chocolate sets.
  • Return the bananas to the freezer for 5-10 minutes to allow the chocolate to harden.
  • Once the chocolate is set, the bananas are ready to be enjoyed. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the freezer.

Dark Chocolate Covered Bananas with a sprinkle of sea salt have a rich history dating back to the ancient Mayan and Aztec civilizations, who revered both chocolate and bananas. This delectable treat gained popularity in the 20th century, especially in coastal regions where sea salt was abundant. Renowned chefs like Julia Child and Jacques Pépin have praised the combination of dark chocolate, ripe bananas, and a touch of sea salt for its perfect balance of sweetness and savory. Today, this indulgent dessert can be found in upscale chocolatiers, beachside cafes, and artisanal dessert shops. For the best version, ensure the bananas are perfectly ripe and the sea salt is of high quality.
