German

Currywurst, a beloved German fast food, was invented in Berlin in 1949 by Herta Heuwer. This iconic dish consists of steamed and then fried pork sausage, smothered in a tangy ketchup and curry powder sauce. The perfect accompaniment to this flavorful sausage is a side of crispy, golden fries. The dish quickly gained popularity and became a staple in German cuisine. Today, you can find the best Currywurst and Fries in Berlin, particularly at Curry 36 or Konnopke's Imbiss. The key to a great Currywurst is the balance of sweet, savory, and spicy flavors in the sauce, and the fries should be perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. For a unique twist, some chefs add a dash of paprika or Worcestershire sauce to the curry ketchup for an extra depth of flavor.
