Communion Crackers
Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 cup of olive oil
- 1/2 cup of water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
- In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
- Add 1/4 cup of olive oil and mix well with a fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add 1/2 cup of water, mixing until the dough comes together.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5 minutes, then divide it into two equal parts.
- Roll out each portion of dough very thinly, about 1/16 inch thick.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the dough into small squares or circles, approximately 1 inch in size.
- Place the crackers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and prick each one with a fork to prevent puffing.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crackers are lightly golden and crisp.
- Allow the crackers to cool completely before serving or storing in an airtight container.
Communion crackers, also known as sacramental bread or altar bread, have been a significant part of Christian religious ceremonies for centuries. These unleavened bread wafers are used to symbolize the body of Christ during the Eucharist. The history of communion crackers dates back to the Last Supper, where Jesus shared bread with his disciples. Today, these thin, round wafers are typically made from wheat flour and water, and are often prepared by religious communities or specialized bakeries. The best communion crackers can be found in churches and religious institutions, where they are made with care and reverence for their sacred purpose.
