This tradition evolved over the years, and in the 19th century, it became popular to display an assortment of fruits on a decorative tray during the holiday season. Today, the Christmas fruit tray is a staple at festive gatherings, featuring a colorful array of seasonal fruits like grapes, berries, citrus, and exotic selections. Chefs and restaurants around the world showcase their creativity by arranging the fruits in intricate patterns, adding a touch of elegance to the holiday table. In regions with abundant fruit harvests, such as California's Central Valley or the Mediterranean, the Christmas fruit tray takes on a local flair with the freshest produce. For the best version of this dish, sourcing high-quality, ripe fruits is essential, as well as incorporating a variety of textures and flavors to create a visually stunning and delicious spread. Some famous alternative methods for making this dish include adding a drizzle of honey or a sprinkle of festive spices for an extra festive touch.
