Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 12 large strawberries
- 8 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
- 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt
Instructions
- Rinse the strawberries and pat them dry with a paper towel. Make sure they are completely dry before dipping in chocolate.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine 8 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate chips and 1 tablespoon of coconut oil. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
- Hold each strawberry by the stem and dip it into the melted chocolate, swirling to coat. Allow any excess chocolate to drip off.
- Place the chocolate-covered strawberries on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt over each chocolate-covered strawberry while the chocolate is still wet.
- Refrigerate the strawberries for 10-15 minutes to allow the chocolate to set.
- Once the chocolate is set, the sea salt chocolate covered strawberries are ready to be served. Enjoy!
The history of chocolate covered strawberries dates back to the 1960s when a gourmet food shop in the United States first introduced them. The combination of juicy strawberries dipped in rich, velvety chocolate quickly gained popularity, becoming a staple at weddings, parties, and romantic occasions. The addition of a sprinkle of sea salt adds a delightful contrast of flavors, enhancing the sweetness of the chocolate and the natural tartness of the strawberries. Renowned chefs like Jacques Torres and Francois Payard have elevated this classic treat, incorporating high-quality chocolate and hand-selected strawberries. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in artisanal chocolate shops and upscale dessert boutiques, where attention to detail and premium ingredients are paramount. When making chocolate covered strawberries at home, it's crucial to use ripe, plump strawberries and high-quality chocolate to achieve the perfect balance of flavors.
