Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cups fresh spinach, chopped
Instructions
- Season the chicken breasts with 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper.
- Dredge the seasoned chicken breasts in 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour, shaking off any excess.
- In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the chicken breasts and cook for 6-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add 2 cloves of minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute.
- Pour in 1 cup of chicken broth and bring to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
- Stir in 1 cup of heavy cream and bring to a simmer.
- Add 1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese and stir until melted and smooth.
- Add 2 cups of chopped fresh spinach and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until wilted.
- Return the cooked chicken breasts to the skillet and spoon the sauce over the top.
- Simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat the chicken through and thicken the sauce.
- Serve the Chicken Florentine hot, with additional Parmesan cheese if desired. Enjoy!

The dish has a long history, dating back to the Renaissance period when it was a favorite of the Medici family. Today, it is a popular menu item in Italian restaurants around the world. One of the key elements of a great Chicken Florentine is the quality of the ingredients. The chicken should be tender and juicy, and the spinach should be fresh and flavorful. The sauce, typically made with cream, garlic, and Parmesan cheese, should be rich and velvety. While the traditional recipe calls for chicken breast, some chefs also use chicken thighs for a more succulent and flavorful dish. Additionally, some variations of the dish include the addition of mushrooms or sun-dried tomatoes for extra depth of flavor. For the best Chicken Florentine, look for a restaurant with a skilled chef who pays attention to detail and uses high-quality ingredients. In Florence, you can find exceptional renditions of this dish in local trattorias that take pride in their traditional recipes. In other regions, seek out Italian restaurants with a focus on authentic and fresh ingredients. Whether you're dining out or preparing Chicken Florentine at home, the key is to ensure that the chicken is cooked to perfection and the sauce is well-balanced and creamy.
