  • 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9x9 inch baking dish.

  • Stir in the drained spinach and cook for 2-3 minutes, until heated through.
  • Sprinkle 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour over the spinach mixture and stir to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.

  • Transfer the spinach mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.
  • In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs with 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle this mixture over the top of the spinach.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the casserole is hot and bubbly, and the top is golden brown.
  • Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Cheesy Spinach Casserole is a classic comfort food dish that has been enjoyed for generations. This creamy and flavorful casserole is a popular side dish at family gatherings and potlucks. The dish typically consists of spinach, cheese, eggs, and seasonings, all baked to perfection. It's a versatile dish that can be customized with different types of cheese and additional ingredients like bacon or mushrooms. In the southern United States, Cheesy Spinach Casserole is a staple at holiday dinners and church suppers. Chefs in the region often add a touch of southern flair by incorporating ingredients like sharp cheddar cheese and a hint of cayenne pepper for a bit of heat. For the best version of this dish, it's important to use fresh spinach and high-quality cheese to achieve a rich and indulgent flavor. Some chefs also recommend adding a sprinkle of nutmeg for a warm and aromatic note. In addition to the traditional baked casserole, some cooks opt for alternative methods such as slow cooker or instant pot versions for added convenience. These variations can result in a slightly different texture but still deliver the same delicious taste. Today, the best Cheesy Spinach Casserole can be found at local diners and family-owned restaurants that take pride in their homemade, comforting dishes. Whether served as a side dish or a main course, this timeless casserole continues to bring people together over its irresistible cheesy goodness.
