Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups of flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or fork to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir until the dough comes together.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it 3-4 times. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick circle.
- Use a floured biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits. Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, making sure they are touching each other.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown.
- While the biscuits are baking, prepare the honey butter. In a small bowl, mix together 1/4 cup of softened butter, 2 tablespoons of honey, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt until well combined.
- Serve the warm biscuits with the honey butter and enjoy!
Buttermilk biscuits with honey butter have a rich history rooted in Southern cuisine. These flaky, buttery biscuits have been a staple in Southern kitchens for generations, with their origins dating back to early American settlers. The addition of honey butter adds a touch of sweetness that perfectly complements the savory flavor of the biscuits. Renowned Southern chefs like Paula Deen and Trisha Yearwood have popularized this classic dish, often serving it at their restaurants in the heart of the South. The best version of this dish can be found in traditional Southern diners and eateries, where skilled chefs use time-honored recipes and techniques to achieve the perfect balance of fluffiness and buttery goodness. To make the best buttermilk biscuits with honey butter, it's crucial to use high-quality buttermilk and cold butter to achieve that sought-after flakiness. The honey butter should be made with real honey and creamy butter for a luscious, sweet spread that takes these biscuits to the next level. While the traditional method of making buttermilk biscuits involves cutting in the butter and folding the dough, some chefs swear by alternative techniques such as using a food processor or grating frozen butter for a foolproof flaky texture. Whether enjoyed for breakfast, brunch, or alongside a comforting Southern meal, buttermilk biscuits with honey butter are a beloved dish that continues to bring joy to diners across the South and beyond.
