Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 4 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup olive oil, 1/4 cup lemon juice, minced garlic, dried oregano, dried thyme, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper to create the marinade.
- Place the chicken thighs in a resealable plastic bag and pour the marinade over them. Seal the bag and massage the marinade into the chicken. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Remove the chicken from the marinade and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Discard the remaining marinade.
- In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter and chopped parsley to create the herb butter.
- Spread the herb butter evenly over the chicken thighs.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and the skin is golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving.
- Serve the lemon garlic butter herb baked chicken with your favorite side dishes and enjoy!
The history of Butter Herb Baked Chicken with a lemon garlic marinade can be traced back to the Mediterranean region, where the use of fresh herbs, citrus, and garlic in cooking is a culinary tradition. This dish combines the richness of butter with the zesty flavors of lemon and garlic, creating a tantalizing marinade for the chicken. Renowned chefs like Ina Garten and Jamie Oliver have popularized this recipe, infusing it with their own unique twists. The best version of this dish can be found in family-owned Italian restaurants, where the chicken is marinated for hours to absorb the flavors before being baked to perfection. The key to getting this dish right lies in using high-quality, fresh ingredients, especially the lemon and garlic, to achieve a harmonious balance of flavors. For a famous alternative method, consider grilling the chicken instead of baking it for a smoky, charred flavor that complements the citrusy marinade.
