Beignets with Chocolate Drizzle
Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of unsalted butter
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- 4 eggs
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Oil for frying
- 1/2 cup of chocolate chips
Instructions
- In a saucepan, bring 1 cup of water and 1/2 cup of unsalted butter to a boil. Add 1/4 teaspoon of salt and stir until the butter is melted.
- Reduce the heat to low and add 1 cup of all-purpose flour. Stir vigorously until the mixture forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
- Remove the pan from the heat and let it cool for 5 minutes. Then, add 4 eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- In a large, heavy-bottomed pot, heat 2 inches of oil to 360°F (180°C). Drop the dough by spoonfuls into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt 1/2 cup of chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.
- Drizzle the melted chocolate over the warm beignets and serve immediately.
Beignets with chocolate drizzle are a delectable treat with a rich history. Originating in France, beignets are deep-fried choux pastry, often dusted with powdered sugar. The addition of a luscious chocolate drizzle takes this classic dessert to the next level. Renowned chefs like Emeril Lagasse have popularized this dish in the United States, particularly in New Orleans, where beignets are a beloved staple. The best version of this dish can be found at the iconic Café du Monde in New Orleans, where they have been serving up piping hot beignets with a generous chocolate drizzle for decades. The key to a perfect beignet lies in achieving a light, airy texture and a crispy exterior, while the chocolate drizzle should be smooth and decadent. For a unique twist, some chefs incorporate different types of chocolate or add a hint of spice to the drizzle, elevating the flavor profile of this beloved dessert.
