Homemade Beef Jerky
Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 2 pounds of beef (flank steak or sirloin)
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
Instructions
- Place the beef in the freezer for 1-2 hours to make it easier to slice.
- While the beef is chilling, in a bowl, mix together 1/2 cup soy sauce, 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce, 2 tablespoons honey, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon black pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika.
- Remove the beef from the freezer and slice it against the grain into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Place the beef strips in a resealable plastic bag and pour the marinade over the beef. Seal the bag and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to marinate.
- Preheat the oven to 175°F (80°C).
- Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top.
- Remove the beef strips from the marinade and pat them dry with paper towels.
- Arrange the beef strips in a single layer on the wire rack.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 3-4 hours, or until the beef is dried and firm, but still chewy.
- Allow the beef jerky to cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
Beef jerky has a rich history, dating back to ancient civilizations who used it as a way to preserve meat. Native American tribes and South American cultures were known to have used similar methods to create this delicious snack. Today, beef jerky is enjoyed worldwide for its convenience and intense flavor. Chefs and restaurants across the United States, particularly in the South and Midwest, have perfected the art of making beef jerky, infusing it with a variety of spices and flavors. The best beef jerky is often found in small, artisanal shops that take pride in using high-quality cuts of meat and traditional smoking or drying methods. Whether it's the smoky aroma or the satisfying chew, beef jerky continues to be a beloved snack for many.
