Dessert
AmericanNew Orleans

Bananas Foster with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream is a classic New Orleans dessert that originated in the 1950s. Created by Chef Paul Blangé at Brennan's Restaurant, this decadent dish features ripe bananas sautéed in a buttery, caramelized brown sugar and rum sauce, then flambéed tableside for a dramatic presentation. The warm, boozy bananas are served over a scoop of creamy vanilla bean ice cream, creating a delightful contrast of flavors and temperatures. Today, this iconic dessert can be found in many restaurants across New Orleans, where chefs continue to honor the original recipe while adding their own unique twists. For the best version of this dish, it's crucial to use ripe, firm bananas and high-quality vanilla bean ice cream to achieve the perfect balance of sweetness and richness. Whether enjoyed at a fine dining establishment or homemade in your own kitchen, Banana Foster with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream is a timeless indulgence that never fails to impress.
