Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 4 bone-in pork chops
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
Instructions
- Season the pork chops with 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper.
- In a small bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup of balsamic vinegar, 1/4 cup of honey, 2 cloves of minced garlic, and 1 teaspoon of dried thyme to make the glaze.
- Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the pork chops and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 145°F.
- Pour the balsamic glaze over the pork chops in the skillet, and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the glaze to thicken and coat the pork chops.
- Remove the pork chops from the skillet and let them rest for a few minutes before serving.
- Drizzle any remaining glaze from the skillet over the pork chops before serving. Enjoy!
Balsamic glazed pork chops have a rich history rooted in Italian culinary traditions. The dish originated in the Emilia-Romagna region, known for its balsamic vinegar production. Renowned chefs like Massimo Bottura have elevated this classic dish, infusing it with modern flair. The key to perfecting this dish lies in the quality of the balsamic vinegar, which should be aged and rich in flavor. The best version of this dish can be found in traditional Italian trattorias, where skilled chefs expertly balance the sweet and tangy flavors of the glaze. To make this dish at home, it's crucial to sear the pork chops to perfection and reduce the balsamic glaze to a luscious, syrupy consistency.
