Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 2/3 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups diced apples (peeled and cored)
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups of flour, 1/3 cup sugar, 1 tablespoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon.
- In a separate bowl, mix 2/3 cup milk, 2 eggs, and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Gently fold in the diced apples.
- In a large, heavy-bottomed pot, heat 2 inches of vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).
- Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Be careful not to overcrowd the pot.
- Remove the fritters from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- In a small bowl, whisk together 1 cup powdered sugar and 2-3 tablespoons of milk to make a glaze.
- Drizzle the glaze over the warm fritters and serve immediately.
The history of the apple fritter dates back to early American colonial times, where it was a popular dish made from simple ingredients like apples, batter, and spices. This delectable treat gained popularity across the United States, with different regions adding their own unique twists. Today, the best apple fritters can be found in renowned bakeries and cafes across the country, with notable versions hailing from the Pacific Northwest and the Midwest. The key to a perfect apple fritter lies in the balance of crisp, golden-brown exterior and tender, cinnamon-spiced apple interior. Some chefs swear by using a light, airy batter, while others opt for a denser, cake-like consistency. Whichever the method, the result is a delightful indulgence that continues to captivate taste buds worldwide.
