Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together 1 cup of butter and 1 cup of sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add in the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with 1 cup of milk, and mix until smooth.
  • Divide the batter in half. Stir 3 tablespoons of cocoa powder into one half of the batter.
  • To create the zebra pattern, spoon 2 tablespoons of vanilla batter into the center of the cake pan. Then, spoon 2 tablespoons of chocolate batter directly on top of the vanilla batter. Continue alternating the batters until all the batter is used up, creating a bullseye effect.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and serve. Enjoy your zebra cake!

For those seeking the ultimate zebra cake experience, visiting traditional bakeries in Eastern Europe is highly recommended. The key to a successful zebra cake lies in achieving the ideal consistency for the batters and carefully layering them to create the signature stripes.
