Dessert
British

Trifle is a classic English dessert with layers of sponge cake, custard, fruit, jelly, and whipped cream. Its origins date back to the 16th century, with the earliest known recipe appearing in a book by Thomas Dawson in 1596. This indulgent treat has evolved over the centuries, with variations in different regions and by renowned chefs. The best trifle is said to be found in traditional English pubs and fine dining restaurants across the UK. The key to a perfect trifle lies in the quality of the custard, the freshness of the fruit, and the lightness of the sponge cake. Some chefs also experiment with alternative ingredients such as chocolate or sherry to add a unique twist to this beloved dessert.
