Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 4 hoagie rolls
- 1/2 cup lingonberry jam (optional)
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine 1 pound of ground beef, 1/2 cup breadcrumbs, 1/4 cup milk, 1/4 cup finely chopped onion, 1 egg, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg. Mix until well combined.
- Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
- In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 10 minutes. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, sprinkle 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour over the remaining drippings. Cook and stir for 1 minute. Gradually stir in 1 1/2 cups of beef broth, 1/2 cup of heavy cream, and 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce. Cook and stir until the mixture thickens and bubbles.
- Return the meatballs to the skillet, coating them with the sauce. Simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Slice the hoagie rolls in half and place them on a baking sheet. Toast in the oven at 350°F for 5 minutes.
- To assemble the sandwiches, place a few meatballs and some sauce onto each hoagie roll. Optionally, spread a layer of lingonberry jam on the top half of the roll. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley.
- Serve the Swedish meatball sandwiches hot and enjoy!
