Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • In a small bowl, stir together 2 3/4 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream together 1 cup of softened butter and 1 1/2 cups of white sugar until smooth. Beat in 1 egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
  • Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden. Let cool on wire racks.
  • In a small bowl, stir together 4 cups of confectioners' sugar and 5 tablespoons of milk until smooth. Divide into separate bowls, and add food coloring to each to create desired colors.
  • Once the cookies are completely cooled, use a small brush or spoon to spread the colorful icing on top of each cookie. Allow the icing to set before serving.
