Refreshing Lemon Sorbet

Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of white sugar
  • 1 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon zest

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of white sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is completely dissolved. This will create a simple syrup. Remove from heat and allow to cool to room temperature.
  • Once the simple syrup has cooled, stir in 1 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice and 2 tablespoons of lemon zest.
  • Pour the mixture into a shallow dish and place it in the freezer. Every 30 minutes, use a fork to stir and break up any ice crystals that form. Repeat this process for about 3-4 hours, or until the sorbet is firm and scoopable.
  • Serve the lemon sorbet in chilled bowls and garnish with a slice of lemon or a sprig of mint, if desired. Enjoy!

Sorbet is a refreshing frozen dessert with a rich history dating back to ancient Persia, where it was made with snow and fruit juices. This delightful treat gained popularity in France during the 17th century, where it was served as a palate cleanser between courses. Renowned chefs like Auguste Escoffier and Marie-Antoine Carême elevated sorbet to new heights with their innovative recipes. Today, the best sorbets can be found in regions known for their fresh fruits, such as the Mediterranean and California. The key to a perfect sorbet lies in using ripe, seasonal fruits and achieving the ideal balance of sweetness and acidity. For a unique twist, some chefs incorporate herbs like basil or mint into their sorbet recipes, adding an extra layer of flavor. Whether enjoyed on its own or as a palate-cleansing intermezzo, sorbet continues to captivate dessert lovers with its vibrant taste and smooth texture.
