Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together 1 1/2 cups of flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
  • In a separate large bowl, cream 1/2 cup of softened butter with 3/4 cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in 2 eggs, one at a time, then stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  • Gradually mix in the flour mixture, alternating with 1/2 cup of milk, until just combined.
  • Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about 2/3 full.
  • Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cupcakes to cool completely.
  • While the cupcakes are cooling, tint the white frosting with black food coloring to create a black frosting.
