Shaved steak, also known as Philly cheesesteak, originated in Philadelphia in the 1930s. Pat's King of Steaks and Geno's Steaks are two iconic restaurants that claim to have invented this mouthwatering dish. Thinly sliced ribeye steak is traditionally used, cooked on a griddle with onions and topped with melted cheese, served in a hoagie roll. The key to a perfect shaved steak lies in the quality of the meat and the precise cooking technique. Today, the best versions of this dish can still be found in Philadelphia, where it's a beloved local specialty. For a twist, some chefs use alternative cuts of beef or add different types of cheese for a unique flavor.
