Ingredients
- 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 cup broccoli florets
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1/4 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 2 green onions, sliced
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
- Cooked rice, for serving
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the sliced flank steak with 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. Toss to coat the beef evenly and set aside to marinate for 10 minutes.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil. Stir-fry the red bell pepper, broccoli, garlic, and ginger for 2-3 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
- Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the vegetables. Add 1/4 cup of beef broth, 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce, 1 tablespoon of sesame oil, and 1 tablespoon of honey. Stir-fry for an additional 2 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and vegetables.
- Sprinkle the sesame seeds and sliced green onions over the stir-fry. Toss to combine.
- Serve the sesame beef stir-fry over cooked rice and enjoy!
Sesame Beef Stir-Fry is a popular dish in Chinese cuisine, known for its savory and slightly sweet flavor. This dish has a rich history, with its origins in the Sichuan province of China, where it was traditionally prepared by skilled chefs in local restaurants. The key to a delicious Sesame Beef Stir-Fry lies in the quality of the beef, the perfect balance of soy sauce, sesame oil, and the right amount of heat from red pepper flakes or Sichuan peppercorns. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in authentic Chinese restaurants that use traditional cooking methods and high-quality ingredients. It's important to get the beef tender and the sauce just right to achieve the perfect balance of flavors. Some chefs also add a variety of vegetables such as bell peppers, broccoli, and carrots to enhance the dish's texture and nutritional value. For a twist on the traditional recipe, some cooks use alternative methods such as marinating the beef in a mix of soy sauce, garlic, and ginger before stir-frying to infuse the meat with extra flavor.
