Ingredients
- 1 lb of smoked sausage, sliced
- 1 can (14 oz) of sauerkraut, drained and rinsed
- 2 apples, cored and sliced
- 1 onion, sliced
- 2 tbsp of brown sugar
- 1/2 cup of chicken broth
- 1/4 tsp of caraway seeds
- 2 tbsp of vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat 1 tbsp of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
- Add the sliced sausage and cook until browned, about 5 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tbsp of vegetable oil and sauté the sliced onion until translucent, about 3 minutes.
- Add the apple slices and cook for another 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in the drained and rinsed sauerkraut, brown sugar, and caraway seeds. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a simmer. Add the cooked sausage back to the skillet and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Cover and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the flavors are well combined and the sauerkraut is tender.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
