Rainbow Swirl Cake with Chocolate Ganache Drizzle
Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- Gel food coloring (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together 3 cups of flour, 2 1/2 cups of sugar, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
- Add 1 cup of softened butter, 4 eggs, 1 cup of milk, and 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth and well combined.
- Divide the batter evenly into 6 bowls. Add a different color of gel food coloring to each bowl and mix until the batter is vibrant and even in color.
- Spoon the colored batter into the prepared cake pans, layering the colors in any pattern you like.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- To make the chocolate ganache, heat 1 cup of heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Place 8 ounces of chopped semi-sweet chocolate in a heatproof bowl. Pour the hot cream over the chocolate and let it sit for 2-3 minutes. Add 2 tablespoons of butter and stir until smooth and glossy.
- Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Drizzle some of the chocolate ganache over the top. Repeat with the remaining layers, stacking them on top of each other and drizzling ganache between each layer.
- Drizzle the remaining ganache over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides. Let the ganache set for a few minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy!
