Pulled pork with spicy BBQ sauce has a rich history rooted in the American South. This beloved dish traces its origins to the early days of Southern barbecue, where pitmasters slow-cooked pork over hickory or oak wood, infusing it with smoky flavor. The addition of a spicy BBQ sauce, often featuring a blend of cayenne, paprika, and other fiery spices, adds a bold kick to the tender, succulent meat. Renowned barbecue joints like Franklin Barbecue in Austin, Texas, and Rodney Scott's Whole Hog BBQ in Charleston, South Carolina, are celebrated for their exceptional spicy pulled pork. To achieve the perfect balance of heat and sweetness, mastering the art of slow-cooking the pork and crafting a flavorful, fiery sauce is essential. For a unique twist, some chefs incorporate regional ingredients like chipotle peppers or habanero for an extra punch of heat. Whether served on a fluffy bun or alongside classic sides like coleslaw and cornbread, spicy pulled pork remains a staple of Southern cuisine, delighting diners with its irresistible combination of smoky, spicy, and savory flavors.
