  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1/2 cup vegetable broth
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder

  • While the jackfruit is cooking, lightly toast the hamburger buns in a toaster or on a skillet.
  • Once the jackfruit is ready, divide the mixture evenly among the toasted buns to make sandwiches.
  • Serve the BBQ pulled jackfruit sandwiches with your favorite coleslaw or pickles, and enjoy!

The Pulled Jackfruit Sandwich with BBQ sauce has a fascinating history, originating as a vegan alternative to pulled pork. This delectable dish gained popularity in the United States, particularly in the southern regions known for their love of barbecue. Renowned chefs and innovative restaurants began incorporating jackfruit, a tropical fruit with a meaty texture, into their menus, creating a mouthwatering plant-based version of the classic pulled pork sandwich. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in vegan eateries and progressive BBQ joints, where the key to perfection lies in the tender, smoky jackfruit and the rich, tangy BBQ sauce. Whether slow-cooked or grilled, this sandwich is a must-try for both vegans and meat-eaters alike.
