Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 1 package of shredded phyllo dough
  • 1 cup of unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups of crushed pistachios
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1/4 cup of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of rose water (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, mix the shredded phyllo dough with the melted butter until well coated.
  • Press half of the buttered phyllo dough into the bottom of a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, creating an even layer.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the crushed pistachios and granulated sugar together, then sprinkle the mixture evenly over the layer of phyllo dough in the baking dish.
  • Top the pistachio layer with the remaining buttered phyllo dough, pressing it down gently to create an even top layer.
  • Using a sharp knife, carefully cut the kunafa into diamond or square shapes, being sure to cut all the way through to the bottom layer.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the kunafa is golden brown and crispy.
  • While the kunafa is baking, prepare the honey drizzle by combining the water and honey in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the rose water if using. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes, until slightly thickened.
  • Once the kunafa is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately drizzle the honey mixture over the top, allowing it to soak into the kunafa.
  • Let the kunafa cool for 10-15 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
