Pineapple slices have a rich history dating back to ancient South America, where the fruit was prized for its sweet, tangy flavor. In the 20th century, chefs and home cooks began incorporating pineapple slices into dishes, particularly in tropical regions like Hawaii and the Caribbean. Today, pineapple slices are a popular addition to both sweet and savory dishes, adding a burst of tropical flavor to everything from grilled meats to desserts. Chefs like Bobby Flay and Gordon Ramsay have popularized the use of pineapple slices in their recipes, showcasing the fruit's versatility. For the best version of this dish, look for ripe, fresh pineapple and consider grilling or caramelizing the slices for added depth of flavor.
