  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

Instructions

  • In a large pot, bring water to a boil and cook the penne pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet, cook the Italian sausage over medium heat, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the sliced bell peppers, onion, and garlic. Cook until the vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes.
  • Add the diced tomatoes, chicken broth, dried oregano, and dried basil to the skillet. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
  • Return the cooked Italian sausage to the skillet and let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Add the cooked penne pasta to the skillet and toss to combine with the sausage and pepper mixture.
  • Serve the penne with Italian sausage and peppers hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese.
