Peach Tart with Vanilla Ice Cream
Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
- 1/4 cup ice water
- 6 ripe peaches, peeled, pitted, and sliced
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 pint vanilla ice cream
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a food processor, combine 1 1/2 cups of flour, 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Add the cold butter pieces and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- While pulsing, gradually add the ice water until the dough comes together.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and form it into a disk. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced peaches with 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch until well combined.
- Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch tart pan. Carefully transfer the dough to the tart pan and trim any excess dough from the edges.
- Arrange the peach mixture over the dough in the tart pan.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the peaches are tender.
- Allow the tart to cool for 10 minutes before serving.
- Serve each slice of peach tart with a dollop of vanilla ice cream on top.
- Enjoy!
The history of Peach Tart dates back to the 14th century in France, where it was initially created by talented pastry chefs in the Loire Valley. This delectable dessert gained popularity across Europe, with each region adding its own unique twist. The combination of ripe, juicy peaches and buttery, flaky pastry creates a delightful harmony of flavors. When served with a dollop of creamy vanilla ice cream, the tart becomes a heavenly indulgence. Today, the best version of this dish can be found in quaint patisseries in France, where skilled bakers meticulously craft the perfect balance of sweet peaches and delicate pastry. The key to mastering this dessert lies in using fresh, high-quality peaches and mastering the art of creating a crisp, golden crust. For a twist, some chefs infuse the peaches with a hint of bourbon or sprinkle the tart with a cinnamon-sugar topping before baking. Whether enjoyed in a charming French bistro or homemade with love, Peach Tart with a dollop of vanilla ice cream is a timeless delight that continues to captivate dessert enthusiasts worldwide.
