  • 4 halibut fillets (6 ounces each)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  • Season the halibut fillets with 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper.
  • In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium-high heat.

  • Sprinkle the halibut with 1 tablespoon of chopped fresh parsley before serving.
  • Serve the pan-seared halibut with citrus butter sauce immediately, and enjoy!

Pan-Seared Halibut with Citrus Butter Sauce is a delectable dish that has its roots in the coastal regions of North America, particularly in the Pacific Northwest. Renowned chefs like Tom Douglas and Ethan Stowell have popularized this dish in their restaurants in Seattle, where fresh halibut is abundant. The dish features a perfectly seared halibut fillet, topped with a luscious citrus butter sauce that balances the delicate flavor of the fish with a zesty kick. The key to this dish lies in the freshness of the halibut and the balance of flavors in the citrus butter sauce. For the best version of this dish, seek out restaurants with access to fresh, sustainable halibut and a chef who knows how to perfectly sear the fish to achieve a crispy exterior while maintaining a tender, flaky interior. Alternatively, home cooks can also recreate this dish by sourcing high-quality halibut and using fresh citrus and butter to create a flavorful sauce. Whether enjoyed in a top-notch restaurant or made at home, Pan-Seared Halibut with Citrus Butter Sauce is a true delight for seafood enthusiasts.
