Oven-fried chicken tenders have a rich history rooted in Southern cuisine, where chefs sought to create a healthier alternative to traditional fried chicken. This dish gained popularity in the mid-20th century as a way to enjoy the crispy, flavorful goodness of fried chicken without the excess oil. Chefs in the American South, particularly in regions like Kentucky and Tennessee, perfected the art of oven-frying, infusing the tenders with a delightful blend of herbs and spices. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in renowned Southern-style restaurants, where chefs emphasize the importance of using high-quality chicken, a well-seasoned breading, and precise oven temperatures to achieve that perfect crunch. For a unique twist, some chefs incorporate buttermilk into the recipe, adding a tangy richness to the tenders. Whether enjoyed as a standalone dish or as part of a hearty meal, oven-fried chicken tenders continue to be a beloved staple in Southern and American cuisine.
