Maple Sausage with Scrambled Eggs

Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 1 lb maple sausage
  • 8 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp butter

Instructions

  • In a large skillet, cook 1 lb of maple sausage over medium heat, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks, for about 8-10 minutes or until fully cooked.
  • While the sausage is cooking, crack 8 eggs into a bowl, add 1/4 cup of milk, and season with salt and pepper. Whisk until well combined.
  • Once the sausage is cooked, transfer it to a plate and cover to keep warm. Drain any excess grease from the skillet.
  • In the same skillet, melt 2 tbsp of butter over medium heat. Pour in the egg mixture and let it sit for a few seconds until the edges start to set.
  • Using a spatula, gently push the eggs from the edges towards the center, allowing the uncooked eggs to flow to the edges. Continue this process until the eggs are mostly set but still slightly runny.
  • Remove the skillet from the heat and continue to gently fold the eggs until they are fully cooked but still soft and fluffy.
  • Serve the scrambled eggs alongside the maple sausage and enjoy!
Breakfast
American

Maple sausage, a beloved breakfast staple, has a rich history dating back to early American settlers who combined pork with maple syrup for a sweet and savory flavor. This delectable sausage is often paired with fluffy scrambled eggs, creating a perfect harmony of flavors. Chefs across the United States have put their own spin on this classic dish, with Southern chefs adding a touch of cayenne for a spicy kick, while New England chefs emphasize the use of locally sourced maple syrup for an authentic taste. For the best version of this dish, head to Vermont, where the maple sausage is unparalleled. The key to perfecting this dish lies in the quality of the sausage and the precise balance of maple sweetness in the seasoning. Whether enjoyed at a cozy diner or a high-end brunch spot, maple sausage with scrambled eggs is a breakfast delight that never fails to satisfy.
