Sweet Potato Liver Treats for Dogs

Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef liver
  • 1 small sweet potato, peeled and diced
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a pot, cover the beef liver and sweet potato with water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the liver is cooked through and the sweet potato is tender.
  • Remove the liver and sweet potato from the pot and let them cool. Reserve 1/2 cup of the cooking liquid.
  • In a food processor, blend the liver and sweet potato until smooth. Add the egg and blend again until well combined.
  • Transfer the liver mixture to a large mixing bowl. Gradually add the whole wheat flour, mixing until a dough forms. If the dough is too dry, add some of the reserved cooking liquid.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes or simply cut the dough into small squares.
  • Place the treats on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes, or until they are firm and crispy.
  • Allow the treats to cool completely before serving. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
