Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 4 salmon fillets
- 1/4 cup orange juice
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup orange juice, 1/4 cup lemon juice, 1/4 cup honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, salt, and black pepper to create the citrus marinade.
- Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish and pour the citrus marinade over them. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to marinate.
- Preheat the grill or a grill pan over medium-high heat. Brush the grill grates with olive oil to prevent sticking.
- Remove the salmon fillets from the marinade and place them on the grill. Discard the remaining marinade.
- Grill the salmon for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork.
- While the salmon is grilling, pour the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil into a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat.
- Add the reserved citrus marinade to the saucepan and bring to a simmer. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the glaze thickens slightly.
- Once the salmon is cooked, brush the glaze over the fillets before serving.
- Serve the citrus honey glazed salmon hot, garnished with fresh herbs or citrus slices if desired. Enjoy!
The history of Honey Glazed Salmon with a citrus marinade can be traced back to the fusion of Asian and Western culinary influences. This dish combines the sweetness of honey with the tangy flavors of citrus to create a delightful marinade for salmon. Renowned chefs like Nobu Matsuhisa have popularized this dish, infusing it with their unique culinary expertise. Restaurants in coastal regions, such as those in the Pacific Northwest, are known for serving exceptional versions of this dish, often using locally sourced salmon and fresh citrus fruits. The key to perfecting this dish lies in balancing the sweetness of honey with the acidity of citrus, resulting in a harmonious flavor profile that elevates the natural richness of the salmon. For a twist, some chefs also incorporate ingredients like ginger or soy sauce to add depth to the marinade. When preparing this dish, it's essential to use high-quality salmon and to allow enough time for the marinade to infuse the fish, ensuring a succulent and flavorful result.
