  • 1 tablespoon of dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon of paprika

  • 4 pita bread rounds
  • 1 cup of diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup of sliced red onions
  • 1 cup of shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup of crumbled feta cheese
  • 1 cup of tzatziki sauce

  • Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Remove the lamb from the marinade and grill for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until cooked to your desired doneness. Remove from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes.
  • While the lamb is resting, warm the pita bread rounds on the grill for about 1 minute on each side.
  • To assemble the gyros, place a generous amount of grilled lamb onto each warm pita bread round. Top with diced tomatoes, sliced red onions, shredded lettuce, crumbled feta cheese, and a dollop of tzatziki sauce.
  • Fold the pita bread over the filling to form a wrap, and serve immediately. Enjoy your delicious Greek Lamb Gyros!

Greek

The history of Greek Lamb Gyros dates back to the 1920s when it was first introduced in Greece. This iconic street food quickly gained popularity and became a staple in Greek cuisine. The dish consists of seasoned, thinly sliced lamb meat, typically cooked on a vertical rotisserie, and served in a warm pita with tomatoes, onions, and a generous dollop of creamy tzatziki sauce. In Greece, skilled chefs and street vendors meticulously prepare and carve the succulent lamb, infusing it with traditional Mediterranean flavors. The dish has since spread worldwide, with variations in different regions, but the authentic Greek version remains unparalleled. For the best Greek Lamb Gyros experience, head to Athens, where you can savor this delectable dish in its place of origin. The key to a perfect Gyros lies in the tender, flavorful lamb and the rich, tangy tzatziki sauce. Alternatively, for a unique twist, consider trying a vegetarian version with falafel or grilled vegetables.
