Frogmore Stew, also known as Lowcountry Boil, is a traditional South Carolina dish with roots in the Gullah Geechee culture. This one-pot wonder is a flavorful combination of fresh shrimp, sweet corn, spicy sausage, and red potatoes, all boiled in a seasoned broth. The dish originated in the town of Frogmore, near Beaufort, South Carolina, and is a staple of Southern coastal cuisine. The name "Frogmore" is derived from the community where the dish was first created. Today, many restaurants in the Lowcountry region serve their own versions of this beloved dish, with each chef adding their unique twist to the classic recipe. For the best Frogmore Stew experience, head to the coastal regions of South Carolina, where you can savor the freshest local seafood and produce in this iconic dish. The key to a perfect Frogmore Stew lies in the quality of the ingredients and the seasoning of the broth, which often includes a blend of Old Bay seasoning, cayenne pepper, and other aromatic spices. While the traditional recipe calls for shrimp, some variations include crab, crawfish, or other shellfish, adding a delightful twist to the dish. Whether enjoyed at a local seafood shack or prepared at home, Frogmore Stew captures the essence of Southern coastal dining, bringing together the vibrant flavors of the region in a single pot.
