Instructions

  • In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups of flour, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 tablespoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg.
  • In a separate bowl, mix 1/2 cup milk, 2 eggs, 2 tablespoons melted butter, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and pat it into a 1/2-inch thick rectangle. Cut the dough into 12 equal strips.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a large pot or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C). Carefully add the dough strips in batches and fry for 2-3 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown.
  • Remove the donut sticks from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  • Once cooled slightly, dust the donut sticks with powdered sugar.
