Instructions

  • In a bowl, mix 1/2 pound of ground beef with 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper. Divide the mixture into 2 equal portions and shape them into patties.
  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the patties for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  • Wipe the skillet clean and return it to the heat. Spread 1 tablespoon of butter on one side of each slice of rye bread. Place 2 slices of bread, buttered side down, in the skillet.
  • Top each slice of bread with a slice of Swiss cheese, a cooked beef patty, half of the caramelized onions, and another slice of Swiss cheese. Place the remaining slices of bread on top, buttered side up.
  • Cook the sandwiches for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
