American

Classic meatloaf is a beloved American comfort food with a rich history dating back to the 19th century. It gained popularity during the Great Depression as a cost-effective way to stretch ground meat. The dish typically consists of ground beef mixed with breadcrumbs, onions, and seasonings, formed into a loaf shape, and baked. Chefs like James Beard and Julia Child have contributed to its enduring appeal. While variations exist, the key to a delicious meatloaf lies in the quality of the meat and the perfect blend of seasonings. Today, some of the best versions can be found in traditional diners and family-owned restaurants across the United States.
