  • 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup of water
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large bowl, combine 2 1/4 cups of flour, 1 1/2 cups of sugar, 3 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
  • Add in 1 cup of softened butter, mixing until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together 4 eggs, 1 cup of milk, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until well combined.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops with a spatula.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
  • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  • In a saucepan, combine 2 cups of sliced strawberries, 1/4 cup of sugar, 2 tablespoons of cornstarch, and 1/4 cup of water.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and the strawberries break down, about 5-7 minutes.
