  • 1 sheet of frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 large apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons apricot preserves
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry into a 10x14 inch rectangle and transfer it to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • In a small bowl, mix together 1/4 cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg.

The Cinnamon Apple Tart has a rich history dating back to medieval Europe, where it was a popular dessert among the nobility. This delectable pastry features a buttery crust filled with thinly sliced apples, sugar, and a generous sprinkling of cinnamon. Renowned chefs like Julia Child and Gordon Ramsay have put their own spin on this classic dish, elevating it to new heights of culinary delight. Today, the best versions of this tart can be found in quaint French patisseries and upscale American bakeries. The key to a perfect Cinnamon Apple Tart lies in the balance of sweet and tart flavors, as well as achieving a flaky, golden crust. For a unique twist, some chefs incorporate a splash of rum or a dollop of whipped cream to enhance the dessert's indulgent appeal. Whether enjoyed warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or savored on its own, the Cinnamon Apple Tart continues to captivate dessert enthusiasts worldwide.
