Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe bananas
  • 8 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup of chopped nuts or sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  • Peel the bananas and cut them in half crosswise. Insert a popsicle stick into each half and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Freeze for at least 2 hours.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, combine 8 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate chips and 2 tablespoons of coconut oil. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
  • Remove the frozen bananas from the freezer. Working quickly, dip each banana half into the melted chocolate, using a spoon to help coat the banana evenly. If desired, roll the chocolate-covered banana in chopped nuts or sprinkles.
  • Place the chocolate-covered bananas back on the parchment-lined baking sheet and return them to the freezer for at least 15 minutes to set the chocolate.
  • Once the chocolate is set, the bananas are ready to be enjoyed. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the freezer.

Chocolate covered bananas have a rich history dating back to the 1950s when they first gained popularity in the United States. This delectable treat is believed to have originated in beachside towns, where vendors would dip ripe bananas in melted chocolate and freeze them for a refreshing and indulgent snack. Today, this delightful dessert can be found in various forms across the globe, from street food stalls to high-end restaurants. Chefs have put their own spin on the classic recipe, adding toppings like nuts, sprinkles, and caramel to enhance the flavor. For the best chocolate covered bananas, look for ripe, firm bananas and high-quality chocolate for a truly decadent experience. In some regions, a popular alternative method involves slicing the bananas before dipping them in chocolate, creating bite-sized treats perfect for sharing. For the ultimate chocolate covered bananas, visit beachside vendors in tropical destinations, where the combination of sun-kissed bananas and rich, velvety chocolate creates an unforgettable culinary experience.
