  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Melt 1/4 cup of butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in 1/4 cup of flour, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of ground black pepper. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture is bubbly.
  • Gradually stir in 2 1/2 cups of milk, and continue cooking until the mixture is thick and bubbly. Remove from heat and stir in 1 1/2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese until melted.
  • Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes. Repeat with the remaining potatoes and cheese sauce.
  • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 60 minutes.
  • Remove the foil, sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese on top, and return to the oven until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Allow to cool for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
