Cheesy Baked Potatoes with Crispy Bacon Bits

Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 4 large russet potatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 4 slices of bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 2 tablespoons chopped chives
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Scrub the potatoes clean and pat them dry. Prick the potatoes all over with a fork and rub them with olive oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  • Place the potatoes directly on the oven rack and bake for 45-60 minutes, or until they are tender when pierced with a fork.
  • While the potatoes are baking, cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet and place it on a paper towel to drain. Once cooled, crumble the bacon into small pieces.
  • Once the potatoes are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. Slice each potato in half lengthwise and carefully scoop out the flesh into a large bowl, leaving a thin layer of potato inside the skin.
  • Mash the potato flesh with sour cream, half of the shredded cheddar cheese, half of the bacon bits, and half of the chives. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Spoon the mashed potato mixture back into the potato skins and top with the remaining shredded cheddar cheese and bacon bits.
  • Return the potatoes to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Garnish with the remaining chives and serve hot. Enjoy!

American

The history of Cheesy Baked Potatoes with crispy bacon bits can be traced back to the heart of American comfort food. This indulgent dish combines the creamy richness of melted cheese with the savory crunch of crispy bacon, all nestled within a fluffy baked potato. Chefs across the United States have put their own spin on this classic, from the bustling kitchens of New York City to the cozy diners of the Midwest. Today, the best versions of this dish can be found in family-owned restaurants that take pride in using high-quality cheese and locally sourced bacon. The key to perfecting this dish lies in achieving the ideal balance of gooey cheese, smoky bacon, and perfectly baked potatoes. For a twist, some chefs incorporate alternative methods such as adding a sprinkle of paprika or a dollop of sour cream to elevate the flavors.
