Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine 1 lb ground beef, 1 small finely chopped onion, 2 minced cloves of garlic, 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro, 1 tsp ground cumin, 1 tsp ground coriander, 1/2 tsp paprika, 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper, and salt and pepper to taste.
- Mix the ingredients until well combined, then divide the mixture into 8 equal portions and shape each portion into a cylindrical kofta shape.

- Serve the beef koftas hot with pita bread, rice, or salad. Enjoy!
Beef Kofta is a popular Middle Eastern dish made from ground beef, mixed with aromatic spices, and formed into skewered meatballs. Its origins can be traced back to the ancient Arab world, where it was a staple dish enjoyed by nomadic tribes. The dish has since spread across the Middle East and beyond, becoming a beloved part of the region's culinary heritage. Renowned chefs like Yotam Ottolenghi have popularized Beef Kofta in their modern Middle Eastern cuisine, adding their own unique twists to the traditional recipe. In Lebanon, restaurants like Em Sherif and Al Halabi are known for serving exceptional Beef Kofta, while in Turkey, the dish is often enjoyed with a side of creamy yogurt sauce. The key to a delicious Beef Kofta lies in the perfect blend of spices, including cumin, coriander, and paprika, which infuse the meat with rich, savory flavors. Grilling the kofta over an open flame adds a smoky char that enhances its taste. For a unique twist, some chefs incorporate ingredients like mint or parsley into the meat mixture, adding a refreshing herbal note to the dish. Today, the best versions of Beef Kofta can be found in authentic Middle Eastern restaurants that prioritize using high-quality, lean ground beef and traditional spice blends. Whether enjoyed with pita bread, rice, or a fresh salad, Beef Kofta continues to be a beloved dish that showcases the rich culinary heritage of the Middle East.
