Baked ham has a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages, where it was a popular dish for feasts and celebrations. The tradition of baking ham continued through the centuries, with different regions adding their own unique flavors and techniques. In the United States, baked ham became a staple for holiday gatherings, especially during Easter and Christmas. Chefs like Julia Child and Emeril Lagasse have popularized the dish, emphasizing the importance of using high-quality ham and creating a flavorful glaze. Today, the best versions of baked ham can be found in Southern restaurants known for their traditional cooking methods and dedication to preserving culinary heritage. The key to a perfect baked ham lies in selecting a high-quality ham and creating a delicious glaze that balances sweet and savory flavors. Some alternative methods for making this dish include using a slow cooker or adding a pineapple and brown sugar glaze for a tropical twist.
