  • 1/4 cup of soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of lime juice
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon of ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup of jasmine rice
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Skewers, soaked in water

Instructions

  • In a bowl, mix together 1/4 cup of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of lime juice, 2 cloves of minced garlic, 1 teaspoon of ground cumin, 1 teaspoon of ground coriander, 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric, and 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper to make the marinade.
  • Add the tofu cubes to the marinade and let it sit for at least 20 minutes.
  • While the tofu is marinating, rinse 1 cup of jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear. In a pot, combine the rinsed rice with 2 cups of water and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
  • Thread the marinated tofu cubes onto the soaked skewers.

Tofu Satay is a popular Southeast Asian dish that originated in Indonesia and is now enjoyed worldwide. This flavorful dish features marinated and grilled tofu skewers, served with a side of fragrant jasmine rice. The tofu is marinated in a blend of aromatic spices, including lemongrass, turmeric, and coriander, then grilled to perfection. The dish is often accompanied by a rich and creamy peanut sauce, adding a delicious nutty flavor. In Indonesia, renowned chefs like William Wongso have perfected the art of creating the perfect Tofu Satay, while in Thailand, it's a staple at street food stalls. For the best version of this dish, head to authentic Indonesian or Thai restaurants, where skilled chefs use traditional techniques to create a mouthwatering Tofu Satay. The key to getting this dish right lies in the marination process, as the tofu needs to absorb the flavors of the spices to create a truly delicious satay. Whether you're a tofu enthusiast or simply looking to explore the vibrant flavors of Southeast Asia, Tofu Satay with jasmine rice is a must-try dish that will tantalize your taste buds.
